Why Tarka X SafeHarbour GreenCare Does Things a Little Differently

When most people think about a gardening company, they picture lawn mowing, hedge trimming, weeding, and keeping outdoor spaces tidy. Whilst we certainly provide those services, Tarka X SafeHarbour GreenCare was created with a much bigger purpose in mind.

As part of the wider Tarka X SafeHarbour family, GreenCare isn't just about gardens – it's about helping people remain safe, independent, and comfortable in their own homes for as long as possible.

Looking Beyond the Garden Gate

Many gardening companies arrive, complete the work, and leave. We take a more holistic approach.

For many elderly, disabled, and vulnerable clients, a garden is not simply an outdoor space. It is often connected to wider challenges such as mobility, health, wellbeing, finances, social isolation, and maintaining independence at home.

This means that when we visit a client, we don't just see overgrown borders or a lawn that needs cutting. We see a person, their home, and their individual circumstances.

We ask ourselves:

  • Is the garden becoming difficult for the client to manage safely?

  • Are pathways clear and accessible?

  • Could the garden be adapted to improve mobility and independence?

  • Are there wider support needs that the client or family may not be aware of?

It is this broader perspective that makes GreenCare different.

Part of a Unique Three-Department Organisation

Unlike most gardening businesses, GreenCare operates as part of a unique three-department organisation:

GreenCare

Providing gardening, grounds maintenance, outdoor support, and environmental wellbeing services.

Advocacy & Concierge

Helping clients and families navigate social care, benefits, legal matters, care assessments, and practical support services.

Security

Providing property welfare checks, vacant property inspections, keyholding, reassurance visits, and security support.

Together, these services allow us to support the whole person rather than focusing on a single task.

Helping Clients Access Funding and Support

One of the biggest differences is the support provided through our Advocacy & Concierge team.

Many elderly and vulnerable individuals are unaware that help may be available to assist with the cost of maintaining their home and garden.

Where appropriate, our Advocacy & Concierge team can explore whether a client may be eligible for:

  • Local authority grants

  • Disabled facilities or support funding

  • Attendance Allowance

  • Personal Independence Payment (PIP)

  • Other entitled benefits

  • Social care funding

  • Personal budgets

  • Direct payments

  • Elements within existing Care Plans

Every situation is different, and funding eligibility will always depend on individual circumstances. However, our aim is to ensure that clients are aware of all available options rather than paying out of pocket unnecessarily.

Many traditional gardening companies simply provide a quote. We help explore whether support may already exist.

Supporting Independent Living

A safe and well-maintained garden can play a significant role in helping someone remain independent.

Overgrown vegetation, uneven pathways, fallen branches, slippery surfaces, and inaccessible outdoor areas can all create risks that may affect a person's ability to continue living safely at home.

Our GreenCare team looks at how outdoor spaces can support:

  • Safer access to the property

  • Reduced trip and fall hazards

  • Easier mobility

  • Improved wellbeing and mental health

  • Greater enjoyment of outdoor space

  • Continued independence

Sometimes a simple garden tidy can make a significant difference to quality of life.

Working Alongside Families and Professionals

We regularly work alongside:

  • Family members

  • Attorneys and deputies

  • Social workers

  • Occupational therapists

  • Care providers

  • Healthcare professionals

  • Executors and estate representatives

This collaborative approach helps ensure that everyone involved is working towards the same goal: keeping the client safe, independent, and supported.

More Than Gardening

At Tarka X SafeHarbour GreenCare, we believe gardening should never be viewed purely as a maintenance service.

A well-kept garden can improve confidence, wellbeing, dignity, and independence. For some clients, it can be the difference between enjoying their home and feeling overwhelmed by it.

By combining practical gardening support with the expertise of our Advocacy & Concierge and Security teams, we are able to provide something that few garden companies can offer: a genuinely joined-up approach to independent living.

A Different Kind of GreenCare

We don't simply maintain gardens.

We help people stay connected to their homes, their communities, and their independence.

That's why GreenCare is more than gardening – it's part of a wider commitment to supporting elderly, disabled, and vulnerable people to live safely, comfortably, and with dignity for longer.

Need support for yourself, a family member, or someone you care for?
